“Friggin’ Ramea, the most boring place on the planet” thought Michael, as the MV Gallipoli made it’s way across the rough water and headed towards the mainland.
Michael grew up in Ramea, a tiny island of less than 600 people, located off the coast of Newfoundland. Michael’s family were primarily fishermen, and the fishery has been in steady decline these days.
When the ferry finally docked, Michael jumped out and began waving his hands and hollering.
“Now that I am in the big city, the sky’s the limit” thought Michael, as he glanced at the sign.

Yeah. Bright lights, big city. 😀
Sounds good for a visit for a bit of quiet – not sure about living there!
Oh dear… but yes I have experienced what it means with a big city once you have been away for just a little while… so I can imagine this.
That got a hoot out of me!
Poor bugger… still… almost TWICE the population! 🙂
I hope he can cope with being among all those people! A delightful tale

I live in a small town (it’s small in size, but big due to all the apartment high-rises). I go to Seoul, and I’m shocked by just how much STUFF is there. It gets worse when I go back to America.
Well done!
Still smiling about this one. I’ve lived in small towns and big cities, and I’ll take the small town.
He should try Hunt’s beach in New Zealand, where the population is 4.
What a delightful contrast between a really small population and a slightly larger one and the difference makes Michael feel.
Having read the book, The Outport People by Clair Mowat, I can understand where you’re coming from with this story. Oh, the joys of escaping a small remote village!
