My Grandfather’s secret to a happy marriage

My grandfather, God rest his soul, passed away in 2006, but before he died, he passed on great secret that he claimed was the reason why he and my grandmother managed to remain married for 70 years.

A Shed.

Grap said that a shed was the secret to a happy marriage. Of course I had to question this, and his reply was that if a man had a shed, he could retreat there whenever a disagreement between he and his wife occurred. Grap said that he spent many a long day in his shed, but that he managed to get lots of work done there, and it kept him from arguing with my grandmother. He went on to say that many marriages fail because husband and wife spend too much time with each other, and if one gets ticked off with the other, arguments often occur. “Go out to your shed, you can stay busy, she is happier when you come back in” he said. The old guy might have been on to something.

This weekend, my fiance and I informed my parents that we had set a wedding date for September 21 2013. My mom was not surprised, as she overheard our plans to build a shed this summer. Gotta love my family!!

  1. This is a great story! I agree with what you’ve said. My Ex and I got married in high school so things didn’t work out so well for us. But we’re still great friends to this day. I like hearing stories like this about how to have a successful marriage. Sadly, we didn’t hear any during ours.

Congratulations on your engagement. I’m sure it will be as successful as your Grandfather’s!
